Before Second Chance Farm
Texas and Arizona were both over 20 years old when we met them — two souls standing in the dust of a Texas holding facility, hours away from being shipped to slaughter in Mexico.
They were completely emaciated, in shock, barely moving. Their eyes were tired, their bodies frail, and their spirits seemed gone. They had less than two hours to be saved.
Their Journey to Healing
The moment they arrived, our veterinary team went to work. They received bloodwork, X-rays, teeth floating, hoof care, and every possible treatment to start their recovery.
They were given not only food and medical attention, but also a safe place to rest, a calm environment, and the gentle reassurance that their lives mattered.
Today: Stronger in Body and Spirit
Just four months later, the transformation is remarkable. Both Texas and Arizona have gained significant weight, their coats are healthier, and their eyes now carry a spark of curiosity. Emotionally, they’ve come back to life — enjoying the company of other horses and learning to trust again.
They are still at the sanctuary, continuing their recovery. When they are fully ready, our hope is to find them a loving home together, where they can live out their days in peace.
