Alfredito – The Donkey Who Was Meant to Survive

Before Second Chance Farm

Alfredito was born in a holding facility — a place where horses and donkeys are kept until they are transported to Mexico for slaughter. He was only 2 days old when we got him, arriving with another 10 donkeys rescued from the same place.

From the very start, Alfredito was fighting for his life. He was critically ill with salmonella and aspiration pneumonia, incredibly weak, and given less than a 10% chance of survival.

His Journey to Healing

He spent more than 13 days in the hospital, receiving life-saving treatments including blood transfusions, plasma transfusions, medications, and IV fluid therapy. Every day was a battle, but slowly, Alfredito began to show signs of improvement — and we began to see the light.

Today: A Life Full of Love

Today, Alfredito is one of the most famous rescues at Second Chance Farm, with a massive following of supporters who stood by him through it all. He’s playful, loving, and full of personality — especially when he’s spending time inside my house, where he knows he’s part of the family.
